Harvesting Dogs

whirling spinning like a maple seed
tearing up the earth and setting it free
a sandstorm's what we're becoming
loosed a dust devil when she let go the leash
we ain't ever green, we leaves

dying light and yellow earth
red rocks stacked flat like cairns
monolithic in sunset's crimson rush
starkly shadows relief on scarlet flush
follows the arroyo's sandy bottom to nowhere

his hair dances like swallows in the wind
from out of nowhere this emotion begins
a strange and luminous enormity of mass
heavy upon our limbics like interstitial inflammation
the smell of garlic and sweat

power and strength
that primeval force of herds
and caballeros

guide, poet, philosopher and friend
you pyramid in the sky you divide us greatly
symmetry of a simply appealing nature
two point three two perhaps is your fractal dimension
near enough for our monkey brains

shutter sets a snare
camera like a fingertrap
snap snap
what the camera captures is light
attention
minds
caught in a flash like a coyote in KC lamps
diving for pearls in an ossuary
memories fade just as quickly as evidence

Hurling stones at scornful oaks
we play our branch a dirge
lizards and centipedes tussle
beige skull spider stalks the widow
web provenders and harbors
mourns every unfulfilled urge
